My sister is a minister in a church that establishes itself on the teachings in a book called The Course In Miracles. I don't see my sister very often so didn't know she was an ordained minister in a church. Last year we were together in the Intensive Care Waiting Room waiting to see my dying dad. During a conversation on faith my sister started sharing hers. Many of her statements sounded New Age to me and when she said Jesus wasn't the only way to Heaven I told her this was false. Here is an article I found on this belief system. It shares what I saw in talking with my sister. I love my sister so I try to keep things on how she is doing and so on. Since our conversation she has not been as open on her beliefs knowing my response the first time. She does make statements like you need to keep your faith and God's strength is enough and so on. She is a very compassionate person and the belief system this church has does encourage people and does so with much of what a biblical church would say. It is just that it does not hold up to what the bible says as a whole and what Jesus said he is. This "Christian" church isn't "Christian" based on what I've learned reading my bible and yet it comes very close to the real thing in the manner of how the people talk and the services.

Most all cults have learned the christianese to disguise their damnable heresies.

I read the article you posted, Vmginny, and I am very familiar with A Course. The writer misinterprets some of the material yet is sufficiently accurate in some areas that clearly show A Course is Off Course. I would not recommend that writer's work; it is too sloppy and non-Christians, or Course followers, would destroy that piece.

Do not go there if you are a disciple of Jesus. I'm sorry about your sister. We can discuss whatever you like off-thread if you like. One of my aunts got caught up in a group that physically disciplined her by the elders spanking her in front of her husband and kids and thought that this was spiritual discipline being applied as the Bible taught. Its the same kind of disorientation. Please pray for her. I will be. I know of this, and its trouble. Trouble as in don't pour acid in your eyes or you will be in trouble. Evil is seductive, more than we care to accept in public. But there is differences of opinion within the Body of Christ that causes discomfort sometimes, and then there is "Danger Will Robinson, Danger!" kind of spiritual warfare going on and it isn't to be taken lightly. I know I used humor, but I do not take evil lightly. Especially when its presented so cunningly as some of the garbage out today. Of course, a Course in Miracles is truly "old" in the sense of modern heresy. Sorry. Pray and listen. Contact some of us if you need to. This is probably something you do not want spread out on the internet though if it concerns a close loved one. Peace in Him. Out!

This "Christian" church isn't "Christian" based on what I've learned reading my bible and yet it comes very close to the real thing in the manner of how the people talk and the services. When a friend of mine was in counseling (during and following a divorce), her counselor advised her to read several books. A Course in Miracles was one of them. Because she is my sister in the Lord and I had stood beside her throughout this ordeal, I asked if I could borrow the books to read them myself. I began reading this book one evening. When I went to sleep, the Lord warned me in a dream regarding this book. I did not finish reading it. I returned it to my friend and cautioned her that the material it contained was not truth. I also shared with her what the Lord had revealed to me through my dream. I have never had this experience regarding a book. But am sharing my experience with you. We need the Lord to reveal these things to us. I would pray for your sister and share God's word with her. This is a spiritual battle, not one against flesh and blood. She is deceived. I am sorry. Bless you for caring. Prayer is the most powerful weapon in this kind of battle. (Read Ephesians 6.) LL

Early in my Christian life I came under the influence of Marianne Williamson, who is the chief proponent of the course. I literally almost lost my mind (soul?). It is indeed the very subtle, but hugely damaging way that error is presented as truth. Their main point and their main error is that love is God. Not that God is love, but that love is God. That may not seem like a big deal, but believe me, if you are a Christian, and you go down that path, it leads only to confusion, turmoil and perhaps worse. I will pray for your sister.

A very subtle difference but it is very important to understand the difference.
