Hey Ms Monkey! How are you and family?

We're doing well, Reba. I'm coming out of my annual way-too-busy-at-work season and am thankful for a restful weekend. Thanks for asking! How are you and yours?

Hmmm....I'm trying to find this funny, but failing. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it IS funny, it's just...too realistic, haha!

You realize, don't you, that some folks may think of these as possible alternatives.

Thanks for the laughs.

I've been going through 1 Thes. with the ladies and we just read those "rapture" verses. I grew up with AG teaching and let me tell you that learning the Reformed way makes so much more sense. Wow, my eyes are opening.

We are reading through 1 & 2 Thess. right now and last week we had a guest who said the very same thing.

Most of what is considered the only acceptable Biblical view of eschatological teaching for modern Christians comes from a woman who prophecied during a camp meeting in the early 19th century (about 1830 if I'm remembering right, and her name was Mary Campbell).

Those same groups deny that a woman should teach a man. However here we have a woman teaching generations of "men" who then, from Darby to Scofield and beyond work on a form of "millenarianism". That term comes from the 1832 copy of Richard Watson's Theological Dictionary.

I remember the first time someone who was a big fan of TBN, you know the network that prominantly featured folks teaching that the idea of a Triune God was a doctrine of demons, was amazed that there was a different interpretation of end times prophecy. Literally, they had never heard anything like it before.

Wow. That's called serious lack of education. But if you only believe what you are told, then the situation is understandable.

There are folks on all sides of every issue that isn't an essential who know that differences exist between interpretations of nonessentials between believers. Its sad when "any other view" is considered unacceptable and of no import.

There are things all of us stand to learn. I am someone who has grown up and prospered spiritually in the Reformed Tradition. I am a fan of both Schaeffer and Lewis, Stott and Trueblood, Bruce Larson and Keith Miller, Calvin, Melchanton, Luther and the Wesleys. These are just a few. But the more I discover the more I realize I know less, and must trust more.

Our confidence is always in the One we know, rather than all that we know. IMO.

I've always believed we needed to pay attention to our faith and Christian history. Most of the folks outside the Reformed Tradition seem to have a too narrowed view of our history, at least in my experience.

The anti-intellectualism popular amongst Fundamentalists in the early 20th century still seems to rear its head.

May God continue to have mercy on us as we seek to be pleasing to God in all we are, think and do.

Anti-intellectualism is everywhere...and it's just too bad, too.

In fact, I recently read a great article that I'll try to find regarding anti-intellectualism in the church and how much we like our ABC (already been chewed) Christianity.

Here is one article that provides several quotes, one is below.

We live in what may be the most anti-intellectual period in the history of Western civilization. . . . We must have passion—indeed hearts on fire for the things of God. But that passion must resist with intensity the anti-intellectual spirit of the world.

J.P. Moreland’s book, “Loving God with All Your Mind” is another good resource.

I can remember hearing Mom & Dad talking about my brothers. Talking about their education. What it was the conclusion. We don’t need to worry … Rapture will happen…. Well that was 50 + years ago. Us girls, we didn't havea chance, were to get married.

I hold that kind of thinking/believe responsible for a lot of the political mess we have today. The major collages 200 years ago were Christian. We (Christians) have allowed the erosion. My view … God gave us the land (USA) and just as the Israelites screwed up so have we.

That's cool. I've just realized so many things that I want to share with some of my family, but sadly I'm sacred.

thanks doinkdom, for your doinkorianism in providing us the doinked material you promised you'd provide us. I'm a doink-fan. Or should that be a doinkerite? Or doinkorian? I know. Shut up.

haha

You are so consistent.

we will all support the idea that since it was left undefined that it means "loyal and consistent".

Unless of course you are a blond.

Then it means that you are "consistent and loyal".
