Julie, I have no idea what the rash could be. It is good that your doctor is investigating and taking precautions. ((hugs)) and prayers.

Has anyone made their own baby food? Did you freeze it or can it?

Pink, I made my own in the food processor. I would cook the food, put it in the food processor with some of the cooking liquid (water) and processed till mashed/chunky then froze it in ice cube trays. Once the food was frozen, I would take them out of the the trays and put the food in ziploc bags. It worked great for me. If we were having broccoli, I would make an extra batch for baby Hannah and freeze it. Sometimes I would plan our household meals around what foods she was trying next for ease of cooking.

I made applesauce. That's it. We waited for her to want our foods and made sure she could eat them ok. We did child led solids. Worked for us and saved me time!

I made Caden's. I was surprised at how easy it was - I did exactly what mamaang did - cooked it, blended it, froze it in ice cube trays, then stored in ziplocks.

I made my own but also use jars for when I am out and about. Check out wholesome baby food It is what I used and it helped me a TON! ETA....I did the same process as lilyofthefield except I used a blender instead of a food processor.

My DH took a call from the doctor's office while I was out last night and they said Elias has a milk allergy. Great. *sigh* I'm so bummed for him and to be dealing with food allergies again. On the other hand, we're well versed in dairy allergies and I'd rather have two kids with the same allergy than two kids with different allergies. This time I have to change my diet too and I confess to be truly terrible at that. Still, if this takes care of his rash, settles him down so he can sleep at night and helps him to gain weight (dairy allergies are notorious for stunting growth) it will be worth it.

Julie, I'm glad you at least got some answers. I'll be praying for you! Baby food- I made sweet potatoes and green beans using a magic bullet. Did a couple of trays of each...those were the only "real" baby foods she had, and I ended up throwing some away. Otherwise we did child-led solids, which worked awesome for all of us.

Thank you ladies. When you made the food, did you use fresh produce or stuff that had already been canned/frozen? Soon I'll have an abundance of apples that I always use to make applesauce for us. (They aren't very good for just eating, but they make excellent applesauce, applebutter and great for crisps and pies.) I have an abundance of green beans (Blue Lake and pole), corn, cabbage, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, zucchini and cucumbers. (I also have onions tomatoes and peppers, but I don't think they would be a good choice for baby food. ) ETA - Sharon, thank you for the link. I read it and then book marked it. Since I am canning/freezing fruits and veggies now, I'll probably be referring to it quite often.

I used fresh and frozen.....I did the ice cube tray thing as well...but mostly I did it up fresh at each meal...I have a little grinder...but mine all started solids late and quickly moved to small cut and soft table foods. The baby food book I have is Into the Mouths of Babes by Susan Tate Firkaly. I like it because it has recipes for infant food, toddler food and whole family recipes too....as well as recipes for children with common food allergies. Julie....I am sorry that he has dairy allergies. :(

Derrek is just starting to feed himself small peices of food. Has 4 teeth now and I think will soon have one or two more on the bottom. What are some good foods to start feeding him (small pieces of course) while he is still getting used to eating? I have some small cherrios and yogurt bites. Is there anything I should NOT give him?

What about freeze dried fruit pieces? Cooked pees or carrots?

Does anyone have any good, fast and easy nutritious recipes? My milk supply seems to be dwindling due to my poor diet as baby just isn't satisfied with me and always requires a bottle after nursing. I just haven't had the motivation to cook and DH only makes simple dishes like spaghetti and grilled cheese, no sides. I'm thinking about signing up for a meal delivery service to ensure that I get at least one good meal a day, but I've love to eat better at home.

Hmm, I will have to think a bit more! (it's a long time ago!)

Dylan really has been eating more people food then baby food. He only has 4 teeth too. Some of the things that we have fed him are watermelon, musk melon, honeydew melon, kiwi, blueberries (smashed), strawberries, raspberries, bananas, peaches, plums, peas, pasta, cheese, bread, chicken (very small pieces) groud turkey, cooked carrots abd broccoli, sweet potato fries, poached apples, spaghetti, scrambled eggs, toast, avacado, yogurt bites, wagon wheels (broken up very small) cherrios, pears, and I am sure there is other things that he has had but cannot remember. You can give him things that you are eating, however just do it under supervision and in smaller pieces. The only time that Dylan has a jar of babyfood is if I made something too spicy to give him, or we are on the go and need something quick. Keep Dylan in your prayers ladies, he is going in Tuesday morning to get tubes in his ears. After 5-6 infections and lots and lots of long nights, this is going to be a blessing to help him be out of pain.

I'd suggest waiting till a baby is at least 12 months old before trying them on strawberries, because of the risk of allergic reactions.

So, Beth is 18.5 months, and she's fine in her current crib, but she's really to big to be comfortable in a pack and play, so that is really limiting us in terms of visiting family overnight, which is something we'd like to do. My parents have bought a toddler bed, and we're planning to bring it over to our house, just to set it up in a corner and let Beth play with it, get used to seeing it. I'd like to be able to sleep over at my parents' house with the kids, so it'll be good if Beth is familiar with the bed they bought. We may be visiting dH's parents when the weather cools down (they live in South Florida), and they have a crib, but it's over 30 years old and not safe by current standards. Do we use it or attempt to take the toddler bed with us? We will be going by car. I'd also like to visit New York, which means flying, so I'd have to come up with a third option then. Co-sleeping is not an option. Other then that, what do you ladies think? Nathan switched to a twin bed at around 20 months, just before Beth's birth, and he did fine. The first night was a little rough, but after that he never looked back. Greg thinks we should start working on the toddler bed transition in the next few months. Beth's crib is a convertible, so if it really doesn't work, we can switch it back.

If you want her to be contained, I'd just put her in the pack n play. I've had kids sleep in it all the way up until 3, and I have big kids too. Used just for sleeping, it doesn't need a ton of room. Another option is to make her a bed on the floor with blankets. We've also done that lots of times.
