I read somewhere that Carrie was raised in a Christian home, however being raised in a Christian home doesn't make you a Christian any more than being born in a garage makes you a car.

During that season, I remember people in church saying they were voting for Carrie because she was the Christian contestant vs. that rocker guy (Bo)...I have no clue whether she was actually ever a Christian or not, that's just what I was told.

As for Daughtrey, I don't know anything about him. He could be a fine Christian, for all I know. During his season, though, I remember seeing internet gossip that he was a worship leader at some church. Supposedly he even had a Christian band that put out an album. After he became famous, I remember seeing more gossip saying that he had dumped his orginal band and replaced them...I certainly haven't heard his name linked with any Christian music, although to be fair I don't listen to much contemporary rock...just not my style. I did watch him during that Thanksgiving football game, though, and enjoyed seeing him again. I rooted for him during his season and even downloaded his version of "Ring of Fire."

I haven't had time to write about this and I am having trouble remembering who went on what night. What bugs me is you see all these people come out with golden tickets and then we don't get to hear them sing.

From what I understand from someone whose daughters friend tried out is she had to audition in front of 3 people before they let her go into to Simon and all of them. My friend said her daughters friend had a really good voice and she's not the type to say that but she's really tone deaf. Like all those people you see who think they can sing.

[snip]

A few seasons ago some reporter tried out and described the process for a magazine...went to the city's stadium, there were tents lined up on the field...she and several auditioners were herded into a tent where they sang for a couple of very bored producers....reporter said nobody in her group went thru...also said most of stadium (from what she saw) didn't go thru...very rare to see people come out of tent with golden ticket to see Simon and crew...

As for why bad people get passed thru...one word...RATINGS. The producers pass those people thru so that America can have fun laughing at them, pure and simple.

You hit it right on the head. For some reason, people still fail to understand that AI is a REALITY show first, and a singing competition second.

kitkatgirl2012, all of the above are from what you posted in defense of your post questioning both Carrie Underwood's and Chris Daughtry's faith. You're new, so let me give you some advice. Until you have actual facts, and concrete proof, it would be best if you withheld comment. Posting an opinion based solely on gossip and what you've "heard" will only get you in trouble.

Singing a Christian song or appearing in a Christian movie does not mean you're a Christian also. 'used to have a choir director at church and she shared with us that she was directing church choir for years but did not accept Jesus until later in her life.

I liked tonight's episode but it seemed that a lot of people got tickets but we didn't get to hear him sing. I also liked how when the first guy came in, they really didn't think he would be able to sing and he did. I also liked the little girl who drew the pictures for each of the judges. That was cute. The girl who brought her in was 16 but boy she didn't look it. She was good too.

I know they let the bad ones on for TV ratings but they should also let on a lot of the good ones. We'd like to see an even number of good and bad.

Another question. There are what, 10,000 people auditioning? Something like that, I don't remember the exact amount. Out of all those people, only 10-20 make it? You mean all those other people were that bad? All those other people made cats all over the city die? LOL I find that hard to believe. In all those cities, only a handful of people make it. It's amazing that only that many people can sing. I wonder if more people who can sing are being told no to let on people who can't? Just wondered.

The last guy, bikini guy, he was just way to strange. He couldn't believe that they were leaving and not listening. He couldn't sing. Some people will do anything to get on that show. Maybe bikini boy and girl should get together and have bikini children?

Last night I thought Victoria did a much better job of interacting with the other judges and contestants this time around. I don't know why that let that guy go through. The one they told to lose the ponytail and shirt. He was not good at all. It was just eye candy. The judges were right in walking out on Bikini Boy. I guess they got tired of some of that nonsense. Hopefully that gentleman does not work construction or he will endure some ribbing from his co-workers.
I too am tired of the sob stories. Everyone has one. They need to put their focus on the people they have put through. We have not heard all of these singers yet.

I doubt very much that "Bikini Boy" was a real contestant. He probably is one of the production crew.

Last night, AI saved the best for last. If that was the best, then I'm Lady Gaga I do have one question. If you made it to Hollywood the first time and it gets narrowed down to where the judges are making a decision, for example between the red head and Megan from Season 8. I thought that you were not eligible again. If anyone can clarify, please let me know.
Last night, in my opinion was not the best. I have not really seen anyone who has stood out. Next week is Hollywood week so that should change.

Your right. Some were good last night but, no one stood out to me either. Your also right that Hollywood week should tell all of us who is good.

When they do those groups where they put 4 or 5 people in a group, someone is usually a stinker, especially if they don't get along with the others or don't want to practice and they just want to have fun. That is very telling.

I think the show is like SYTYCD. If you don't get picked, you can come back 5 or 6 times and then you can't come back anymore. I don't remember how many times it actually is but I think I have it about right. Eventually, you either improve in your singing because you took lessons or whatever, or you just stink every time and they keep telling you that you can't sing. They did remember a few people, some they didn't. That's show biz! LOL

I hate the group portion of the show. People should be able to go forward/get eliminated on their own merits. I've seen some good people get rejected just cause the rest of their group didn't practice/care.

Couldn't agree more. Having contestants stay up all night so that they're exhausted and (sometimes) stressed out because of dissension in their group is not really measuring their singing ability. It's more drama for the ratings, which is a shame, because you're right, good contestants suffer.

I'm confused about coming back, too. Are you only forbidden from coming back once you make it onto the live shows? I mean, I'm glad the lady with the disabled daughter is back...but it does seem a little excessive. 3 times?

Oh, well. Try, try again.

"Absent Element is the Chris Daughtry-fronted Christian alternative rock band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Uprooted is their first release, a 7 song EP."

Daughtry's past

And of course, there's the ever-popular Wikipedia....but I've heard they shouldn't be trusted, either.

"On July 10, 2006, it was announced that Daughtry had signed with 19 Entertainment and RCA Records and began working on an album that was to be released in November. It was also announced that, like season 4 rocker Constantine Maroulis, he would be forming his own band. His band was formed under the name Daughtry, after the singer's last name."

Daughtry's present

There were some surprisingly good performer's during last nights show. It looks like the last 2 girls may be winners.

Is it just me or did the judges all seem disconnected last night? None of them had anything worthwhile to say.

I was pleasantly surprised by how constructive Ellen was in her critiques.

I think it was the editing of the show.

I thought that Ellen did quite well. The guy who did Straight Up and the last 2 girls were great. The rest was so so. Not a lot of drama this year, but group night is tonight and there will be some drama.

I think you are right Jodavi...I never really thought about the editing...Ellen seemed scared...I guess she was trying to be funny a couple of times but it just didn't hit the target.

I thought the girl from Tenn who had never been on an "aerooooplane" before did pretty good considering how nervous she must have been.
