How do you all do Spelling with multiple ages? Do you do a list together or does each individual have a list? What kind of things do you do to help them retain the words (actvities, games, etc.). (our boys are 11 and 8-1/2). Thanks!

i don't actually teach spelling from a curriculum, but help them as they write out answers for different subjects and papers. This has worked for us. My eldest two are already better spellers than I am. I had thought about buying spelling curriculum, but remembered that I had always got hundreds on my spelling tests and yet was an awful speller. I was memorizing the word list, but it wasn't helping me with spelling general. That is why we work on spelling of words while they are using them. This approach seems to be working for us.

We use Spelling Power. I've used it for all of my kids. They work at their own pace. There is a lot of review. I'd say about a quarter of the words in the next level are words from the previous level. There are mid-level reviews, as well as end of level. Also, if one of my kids struggled with a certain word, I will pencil it in for the next level.

Great! That way you can take a look at it. It will make sense once you see it.

My daughter did spelling workout and really retained everything. She is quite a good speller now. I am using it again for my youngers.
